The “HP” lettering was inspired by Gothic and medieval fonts, evoking the feel of old spellbooks and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. 📚

When the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone went into production, the Warner Bros. team took this symbol but made the lightning bolt much sharper and more aggressive, to match the “epic” tone of the movie.
It’s this movie version that was then used everywhere, to the point that people forget it wasn’t in the original book mockups.

In short: the lightning bolt in the “HP” logo became iconic… even though it wasn’t originally meant to be a nod to the scar ✨
