Hang your Christmas wreath on the door! ❤️
Making a decoration is all well and good, but you need to find the perfect spot for it! And this one has an obvious place: right on your front door, of course!
There are two ways to hang it, depending on your pattern. If one of the beads along the edge has left a small natural hole, simply thread a pretty raffia string through it. Otherwise, an adult can carefully make a small hole using a heated needle. Choose natural or colourful raffia, tie a pretty bow and your handmade Christmas decoration is ready to hang! ✨
The Christmas wreath has become a symbol of welcome and togetherness. Hung by the entrance, it greets everyone who comes to share a little Christmas time with you. A lovely way of saying: “Come on in, Christmas is being celebrated here!”
You can also hang it on an indoor door, place it on a shelf or use it to decorate a gift. Why not make a few to give to family and friends? A lovely handmade little present that’s a bit different from the usual gifts.
Did you know? 🌿
This tradition became especially popular in England during the 19th century. At the time, wreaths hung on doors were sometimes called “welcome rings”. They were made with holly, ivy, pine branches and ribbons. welcome rings, autrement dit des « anneaux de bienvenue ». Elles étaient confectionnées avec du houx, du lierre, des branches de pin et des rubans.
Here’s a fun fact: wreaths weren’t always meant for doors! In Ancient Rome, leafy wreaths were already used to celebrate winners and mark special occasions.
